  1. Good to hear from you. Ambitious projects are easy to burn out on. Thanks much for what you’ve done and I’ll be highly interested to see what you may publish, even just summaries directing interested scholars to sources.

“Indeed, there still is some disconnect between anime fandom and academia”

I can say the same is very much true in video game research. The resources and insights being compiled by amateurs are simply not considered worthy by academia, who continue to believe that prior published work is absolutely correct on a factual basis. Contemporary pop culture studies needs to reckon with the fact that we need a ground-up evaluation and can’t rely on the available monographs which have much less information to work with to make points.

Your work has he think about animation in new ways, so thank you for what you’ve accomplished. Cheers to future endeavors!

  2. I still treasure any writing you’ve given regardless of it’s completeness or adequacy to your rigourous academic standards (a good thing no doubt!), and will gladly continue to read whatever you want to share. I’m glad to hear you’ve recovered enough to still engage with us, you know how sometimes writers or creators in general disappear altogether. Thank you so much and looking forward to reading what’s next 🤗

  3. Exciting to hear from you again, and I look forward to your commentary on anime magazines.
I’ve personally researched them directly less and less as of late as I’ve tried to shunt my interests into more contemporary works, but they’ve remained in my mind as a kind of essential first revolution of means for audience communication. To summarize; to what extent is internet communication and the fan commentary found in magazines one and the same? I’m looking forward to hearing your more developed thoughts on the subject in the time when I’ve been personally neglecting them in spite of how interesting I find them and how useful they are as a point of reference.
Though, I don’t write for shit anymore because I’m trying to prioritize other things, I look forward to whatever new commentary you end up putting out and will try to respond to it and share it around.

  4. Thanks for the transparency! That’s how it is sometimes with life, and I don’t really blame you for choosing go this route in terms of current intents with this site.

As an amateur animator who wanted to get more context on the techniques and history of anime, I got a lot out of reading (I believe half a year ago) your previous series on TMS, Kanada, World Masterpiece Theater, and what was completed of Mushi Pro. They made me aware of the greater scope of what influenced what, and I’m still thankful for that.

Best of luck on your career, and whatever you choose to post on this site going forward! Will still keep up with it!
